A strong smell of ammonia: infection or dehydration?
Urine that gives off a strong smell of ammonia may be due to a lack of hydration. However, if this odour is accompanied by pain when urinating, a frequent urge to go to the toilet or from urine problems, it could be a urinary tract infection.
Urinary tract infections are common, especially in women, and require rapid management to avoid complications.
Dark brown urine: a sign that should not be overlooked
Dark brown urine may be caused by certain foods (such as rhubarb or beans), certain medicines (such as metronidazole or chloroquine), or severe dehydration.
However, it may also indicate a more serious problem, such as liver disease or muscle damage (rhabdomyolysis). After intense physical exertion, it is possible to observe darker urine, but if this persists, a medical consultation is required.
