How to Clean Burnt Pots and Pans with Household Items
Burnt pots and pans can be a challenge, but with everyday household items, you can clean them effectively without harsh chemicals. Baking soda, for instance, is not only a useful cooking ingredient but also a powerful, versatile cleaner. Its mild abrasiveness and alkaline properties can neutralize acidic burnt food residues. When combined with acidic ingredients like lemon or vinegar, baking soda creates a bubbling reaction that helps loosen stubborn food bits from pots and pans.
1. Using Baking Soda Alone
Step 1: Place the pot or pan on the stove and heat it until you hear a sizzle when a drop of water is added.
Step 2: Pour in about a cup of water, or a 1:1 mixture of water and vinegar, depending on the size of the pan.
Step 3: Once the liquid reaches a boil, use a spoon to scrape off the loosened food bits. When most of the residue is gone, pour out the liquid and debris. Sprinkle baking soda over the pan and allow it to cool.
Step 4: Scrub the pan as you normally would to remove any remaining food particles.
For stubborn burnt spots on the bottom or inside of the pan, make a paste with baking soda and water. Apply the paste to the affected areas and let it sit for a few hours or overnight. Then, add more baking soda as needed and scrub thoroughly to remove the remaining stains.
