Meat: A mixture of ground beef and ground pork will give the sauce more depth of flavor. You can also use ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
Consistency: If the sauce is too thick, you can thin it out with a little extra beef broth or water. If it’s too thin, leave the lid off the slow cooker for the last 30 minutes to allow it to reduce.
