Sicilian cannelloni…. A delight

Step: 1.
Preheat the oven to 180 °C or higher. 6.

Peel and finely chop the onions.

Heat the olive oil in a saucepan over high heat.

When the olive oil is hot, add the chopped onions to the pan and cook for 3 minutes or until translucent.

Then add the ground beef and continue cooking, stirring well, for about 10 minutes.

Salt and pepper to taste.

Once the ground beef is cooked, add the coulis and tomato paste and paprika to the pan, reduce the heat and simmer for a few more minutes, stirring frequently.

Then remove the pan from the heat and set aside.

Bring a large amount of water to the boil in a second saucepan over high heat.

Once the water is boiling, plunge the cannelloni into the boiling water and cook for 1 to 2 minutes or until al dente.

When the cannelloni are cooked, drain them in a colander and set aside.

Butter a baking dish. Using a small spoon, fill the drained cannelloni with the meat mixture and place them side by side on the bottom of the dish.

Pour the tomato sauce over the cannelloni in the dish and then sprinkle with grated Gruyère cheese.

Step: 14
Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 25 minutes or until the grated Gruyère cheese on the surface is golden brown.

Step: 15
Serve these Sicilian cannelloni on plates very hot. Enjoy this pasta dish immediately with a spicy green salad.

Tips:
Turn yourself into a real Italian “mama”. Cook your homemade tomato sauce beforehand.
