Start by combining the sugar, milk, and butter in a large saucepan. As you cook it over medium heat, make sure to keep stirring until it comes to a boil. After that, let it boil without stirring until you reach the soft ball stage, which is about 234°F or 112°C. Once there, take it off the heat and mix in the chocolate chips and vanilla until everything is nicely melted. If you want, you can add chopped nuts at this point and give it a good mix. Finally, pour this mixture into a greased 9×13 inch pan and let it cool completely. Once it’s set, cut it into squares and enjoy.
