German Style Apple Oatmeal
Ingredients (serves 2):
1 cup (100g) oats (traditional or whole grain)
2 cups (500ml) milk (you can use plant milk as an alternative)
1 large apple, peeled and grated
1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pinch of salt
1 tablespoon raisins or dried fruit (optional)
1 teaspoon butter (optional, for a creamier touch)
Instructions:
Prepare the oatmeal base:
In a medium saucepan, mix the oats, milk and pinch of salt.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the oats begin to thicken (about 5-7 minutes).
Add the apple and flavorings:
Stir the grated apple and cinnamon into the oats.
If you want a sweeter touch, add honey or maple syrup.
Continue to simmer for 2-3 more minutes, stirring to allow the flavors to blend.
