4 tbsp butter (or herb butter)
Chives (or spring onions)
Gouda (Cheddar, Emmental, or spicy mountain cheese)
1 garlic clove (optional)
Diced ham (optional, or cooked ham slices)
To prepare the farmhouse pull-apart bread:
First, slice the bread in a lattice pattern. Be careful not to cut all the way through, but cut as far as possible—there should only be about 2 cm of space left at the bottom.
Cut the cheese into slices and place them in the resulting spaces. Distribute the chives or spring onion rings on top. If you want to use ham, add it.
Melt the butter in a small saucepan and grate in the garlic. Then brush the bread with the garlic butter. It’s fine to let it seep into the loaf.
Your party bread will now bake for about 25 minutes in an oven preheated to 200°C (400°F) – the cheese will melt beautifully.
After baking, sprinkle it with chives and serve it on a large board.
Now you can pull out the edges of the bread to your heart’s content. Enjoy.
