Discover the key to making a restaurant favorite in your slow cooker

Directions
1. Sprinkle black pepper liberally over steak; rub lightly. Cut steak into thin strips. Place them in the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker along with the onion and pepper.
2. In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger and garlic powder. Pour over steak in slow cooker.
3. Whisk together the remaining 1/2 cup beef broth with the cornstarch; pour into the slow cooker. Stir until all ingredients are fully combined.

4. Place the lid on the slow cooker and let the food cook on low for 5 hours. Taste just before serving and adjust seasoning if needed.

Pro tip: Although this is a fairly authentic Chinese dish from the Fujian province of China, the use of beef has a Western twist. For an even more authentic dish, replace the beef with pork, as the original dish calls for.
