1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp hot sauce (optional)
1 tsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
Instructions:
Prepare the Shrimp and Crab:
In a medium bowl, combine the chopped shrimp and crab meat. Be sure to carefully check the crab meat for any leftover shells.
Make the Cake Mixture:
In a large bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, egg, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, parsley, green onions, Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix well.
Add the crab and shrimp mixture to the bowl and gently fold everything together. Be careful not to break up the crab meat too much.
Form the Cakes:
Shape the mixture into 6-8 cakes, depending on your preferred size. Dredge each cake lightly in flour to coat it on all sides.
Fry the Cakes:
Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the crab and shrimp cakes to the pan, making sure not to overcrowd them.
Cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides. You may need to add a little more oil if the pan starts to dry out.
Make the Sauce:
While the cakes are cooking, whisk together the ingredients for the sauce (mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, hot sauce, and parsley) in a small bowl.
Serve:
Once the cakes are cooked, remove them from the pan and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Serve the crab and shrimp cakes warm with the prepared sauce on the side for dipping.
Tips:
Chill the cakes: For better shape and easier handling, refrigerate the formed cakes for 20-30 minutes before frying. This helps them hold together better while cooking.
Make them ahead: You can prepare the cakes and refrigerate them until you’re ready to cook, or even freeze them for up to 1 month.
Add more flavor: Feel free to add a little Cajun seasoning or chopped bell peppers to the mixture for an extra kick.
These Crab and Shrimp Cakes are a true crowd-pleaser, with their crisp exterior and tender, flavorful interior. Whether served as an appetizer at a gathering or as a main course with a side salad, they’re sure to be a hit at any meal!
