Reviving Rotten Orchids: Step-by-Step Guide to Bring Your Orchids Back to Life
Orchids are resilient plants, but sometimes they suffer from rot and leaf loss. Many people may think such orchids are beyond saving and discard them. However, with the right care, even severely damaged orchids can be revived. Today, I will share with you several effective methods to nurse dying orchids back to health.
Method 1: Using Cinnamon Water to Revive Orchids
If your orchid has lost all its leaves but still has a few fresh roots, do not throw it away. Follow these steps:
Remove Rotten Parts
Cut off all damaged and rotten roots.
Seal the cut wounds with molten candle wax to prevent water from entering and causing further decay.
Prepare Cinnamon Water
Mix 2 teaspoons of cinnamon powder with 1 liter of boiled water.
Cover and allow it to cool completely.
Strain the liquid to remove residue.
Soak the Orchid
Place the orchid in cinnamon water for 30 minutes.
This solution helps prevent fungal diseases and insect infestations.
Use the remaining solution to spray on other orchids as a protective measure.
Replanting the Orchid
Use dry pine bark and pumice stone as the growing medium to improve drainage.
Add a layer of dry moss on top to help retain moisture.
Keep the orchid in a cool, well-lit place for 7 days.
Maintenance
After 7 days, lightly mist the plant to maintain humidity.
Cover it with a clear plastic container with ventilation holes to create a greenhouse effect.
Within 3 weeks, new shoots should begin to emerge.
Spray water once every 5 days to keep the sprouts hydrated.
After 2 months, your orchid should have healthy new growth.
Method 2: Using Garlic Water to Stimulate Growth
If the orchid stem and roots are still fresh but the leaves have withered, garlic water can help revive it.
Prepare Garlic Solution
Mince 3 cloves of garlic and soak them in 1 liter of room-temperature water.
Let it sit for 24 hours in a cool, shaded place.
Strain out the residue before use.
Soak the Orchid
Place the orchid in garlic water for 20 minutes to kill bacteria and fungi.
Use the leftover garlic water to spray other orchids for additional protection.
Replanting and Care
Use dry pine bark or pumice stone as the growing medium.
Keep the orchid in a cool place without watering for 1 week.
After a week, start misting with water to maintain humidity.
Keep the plant in a temperature-controlled environment (20-25°C) away from direct sunlight.
Mist regularly to speed up recovery.
Applying Ginger Extract (GE Ginger Water)
After 2 weeks, mix 3ml of GE ginger water with 1 liter of water.
Water the orchid with this mixture every 10 days to stimulate root and sprout development.
After 1 month, the roots should have grown significantly, allowing you to start using organic fertilizers.
