How to make bread pockets
Prepare the bread slices.
Use a rolling pin to flatten the bread slices, then cut them diagonally into triangles.

Create the pockets.

Brush the bottom of the loaf with water, then fold the outer corners inward and press to seal.

Cook the pockets. Transfer the bread pockets to a baking tray lined with parchment paper and bake at 180°C/360°F for 10 minutes.

Fill the pockets.

Fill the pockets with cream cheese and salmon.

Bread pocket variations

Don’t want cream cheese and smoked salmon? Instead, use one of these delicious toppings:

Ham and cheese – fill the bread pockets with a mixture of grated Swiss cheese and mature cheddar, and top with chopped ham.

Philly Cheese Steak – fill bread pockets with grilled slices of steak, sautéed onions and peppers, and shredded Swiss cheese.

Chicken Salad – make a chicken salad sandwich filling by combining shredded cooked chicken, celery, apple, fresh dill and mayonnaise. Decorate with fresh parsley.

Advice

This recipe will work best with fresh store-bought white bread. It’s soft enough to fold into pockets.
